How Does It Work?
Hair grows in three distinct cycles. First, the active or growth cycle (Anagen); next, the dormant cycle (Catagen) and, finally, the fall-out or shedding cycle (Telogen). Laser Hair Removal is most effective during the growth cycle (Anagen).
The pigment in the hair follicle absorbs the laser light and converts the light to heat. The heat, in turn, damages the follicle and destroys its ability to re-grow. It is important to treat each follicle during the growth cycle for maximum hair reduction.
At Reflections Medspa, we use the FDA-approved Mediostar XT Pro Diode Laser which has a Cryogen filled cooling tip. This laser cools before, during and after each laser pulse to protect your skin and make treatments more comfortable.
Significantly less hair grows back with each treatment…ultimately resulting in your goal of permanent hair reduction. The number of treatments required varies.
Hair growth cycles differ on different parts of the body. Your skin and hair color, coarseness of hair as well as age, metabolism and other individual factors influence hair growth rate. Our experienced staff will work with you in designing a schedule to optimize your results.
What Areas of the Body can be treated with Laser Hair Removal?
Laser hair removal is safe enough to be used on all areas of the body including the face, back, underarms, bikini line, legs and arms.
What can I expect with the procedure?
Most people describe laser hair removal as feeling prickly or like a light rubber band snap. You should plan on wearing clothing that will allow easy access to the area being treated. Laser hair removal works best when the hair is cleanly shaven before the treatment and it is very important NOT to pluck, tweeze, or wax the area being treated. No specific care is needed after the treatment. It takes 2 weeks for the hair to fall out on its own.
How many treatments do I need?
Because hair grows in cycles, only a portion of your hair is above the skin’s surface and able to be targeted by the laser during each treatment. It is estimated to take four to eight treatments for each area, which can be spaced between two to eight weeks apart depending on the area being treated. You can expect some re-growth, which can be treated with periodic “touch-up” visits.
